CONTEST

Problem

Patexia seeks market research on the worldwide market characteristics and features of measurement while drilling (MWD), also known as logging while drilling (LWD), and its applications within the oil and gas industry.

An ideal submission will come from a Patexia member with either first-hand industry experience in the field or have an academic/research background covering the subject matter.

The following types of questions will be asked:

  • qualifying questions must be answered correctly in order for a user to be eligible for a prize
  • market consensus questions are the basis for the prize determination
  • survey questions are about your first-hand industry experience and/or academic/research background and will be used to evaluate your answers to the market consensus question

Please review the Contest Rules. For more information on how to submit to this Contest type, please read the Intro to Market Research page.

Additional Reward Information

The strongest submissions will be considered for another round of more detailed questions, and a potential offer for a follow-up Connect consulting opportunity.

Qualifying Questions

  1. Do you want to add your resume? You will be able to attach your resume to questions 2 - 9 as a reference.
  2. Do you know who are the key players in the MWD market? Please name them.
  3. Do you know what is the approximate annual size of the MWD/LWD market (not including wireline)? Please describe.
  4. Do you know what is the key sensor technologies in MWD/LWD outside of resistivity and gamma? Please name them.

Market Consensus Questions

  1. [$500] Do you know what formation-fluid-sampling while drilling tools are available to extract fluid samples from the borehole wall? Please describe each tool, its operation, the manufacturer and the model.
  2. [$500] Do you know what wireline-based  formation-fluid-sampling tools are available to extract fluid samples from specific sections of the borehole? Please describe each tool, its operation, the manufacturer and the model.
  3. [$500] Do you know how each wireline-based tool anchors onto the borehole and if any anchors for any products operate separately from the fluid extraction probe? Please describe including location and function of the anchors relative to the probe.
  4. [$500] Do you know of any LWD/MWD tool where the body of the tool rotates with the drill pipe but a sensor portion remains stationary with respect to the borehole? Please explain including the advantages of being stationary.
  5. [$500] Do you know of any downhole tool (wireline or MWD/LWD) that can acquire a fluid sample into a main sample chamber, then transfer a portion of the sample to a removable micro-sample chamber where the sample can be analyzed down hole? Please explain, especially if you know of a micro-sample chamber that can be easily removed once the tool is extracted from the borehole for additional testing.
