Problem
Patexia seeks prior art for US Patent 8,279,809 with a focus on independent claim 1.
With respect to ‘809 patent, Patexia is looking for an apparatus (such as a base station) for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) wireless communication, which can control the transmission power based on reception capabilities of the receiving apparatus. Following Fig. 4 from ‘809 is a block diagram illustrating a schematic configuration of a base station according to the the embodiment.

Submitted documents describing this system must be:
● filed or published before 12/02/2005
Questions
# | Question | Value |
---|---|---|
1 | Is the reference either a US patent filed, a foreign patent published, or a non-patent document published before December 2, 2005? | T/F |
2 | Does the reference describe an apparatus (such as a base station) for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) wireless communication, comprising reception components and signal generation and transmitting components? | 5 |
3 | Do the signal generation and transmission components generate and transmit OFDM signals comprising multiple subcarriers arranged in a frequency channel to another wireless communication apparatus (such as an user terminal)? | 5 |
4 | Do the signal generation and transmission components assign no power to the frequency channel’s 1st arbitrary number of subcarriers at 1st edge and 2nd arbitrary number of subcarriers at 2nd edge? | 45 |
5 | Do the signal reception components receive the other wireless communication apparatus’ reception capabilities? | 5 |
6 | Do the reception capabilities determine the 1st arbitrary and the 2nd arbitrary number of subcarriers via math functions, and indicate the 1st arbitrary and the 2nd arbitrary number of subcarriers are not usable by the other apparatus? | 40 |

Prior Art Search
This is a Prior Art Search contest aimed at determining if a patent idea was known and publicly available before a patent was filed.
+5 bonus points will be awarded for non-patent literature and for foreign language references.
Prize: The prize for this contest consists of $5,000 community prize which will be distributed based on our prize distribution policy and $2,000 bonus which will be distributed for qualified refernces as explained below.
Known Referecnes: Submission of known references as long as it answers all the questions correctly is qualified for the $5,000 prize money but NOT qualified for the $2,000 bonus.
An Extra $2,000 bonus will be awarded according to our distribution policy to contestants if their submission is (1) a non-patent-literature or a foreign document, (2) able to answer all questions correctly, and (3) outside our KNOWN references list (1), (2) & (3).
This contest will close on Sunday, October 29th, 2017 at 11:59 PM PT.
Please review the Contest Rules. For more information on how to submit to this Contest type, please read the Intro to Prior Art Search page.
