Problem

Patexia seeks prior art for a US patent which allegedly describes a method of setting the Radio Link Control (RLC) state variable controlling the number of times a reset protocol data unit is transmitted back to its default value even if the RLC is only reestablished on the receiver side.

In mobile wireless communications, the transmission quality can be set to acknowledged mode (AM) when a mobile device needs high data accuracy and is willing to sacrifice the ability to communicate data in real-time. During this quality mode, the RLC layer governs the transmission and reception process of both the transmitter and receiver side. In some situations, this RLC layer must be reestablished, such as when a system variable of this layer changes, and can be focused on reestablishing the transmitter side or the receiver side.

During the reestablishment process of the receiver side, the reset state variable is used to count the number of times a reset protocol data unit (PDU) is transmitted. This state variable increments by 1 every time a PDU received is determined to include a bad sequence number. When this state variable reaches a preset maximum value, the RLC reset procedure is stopped and an error is sent to the system. However, if the reset is successful and the RLC is reestablished before it reaches the preset maximum value, the state variable is set back down to its default value in preparation for the next RLC reset procedure.

Previously, when only the receiver side of the RLC reset procedure was successfully reestablished, the current procedure is terminated and a new procedure is started, without setting the state variable back to its default value.

The patent allegedly corrects that oversight and describes setting the state variable back to its default value when the RLC is only reestablished on the receiver side.

This Contest is related to the following Mobile Phone Connection Contests. Similar references are allowed; however, the five Contests focus on different features and have different questions. All five Contests have the same list of Known References.

  4. RLC Variable Reset
  5. HARQ with TTI Bundling

Questions

  1. Was the reference filed or published before May 3rd, 2006?
  2. Does the reference describe a mobile device that handles a state variable for a Radio Link Control (RLC) reset count during a receiver-side-only reestablishment process?
  3. Does the mobile device include a control circuit, a processor, and a memory to execute code to control this RLC receiver-side-only reestablishment process?
  4. Does this code reestablish only the receiver side of an RLC entity?
  5. Does this code set back to its default value the state variable for the RLC reset count which describes the number of times a reset protocol data unit (PDU) is transmitted during the reestablishment of only the receiver side of the RLC entity?
