Problem

Patexia seeks prior art for US Patent 6,779,022 (US ‘022) which allegedly describe a mechanism or system which periodically retrieves a user’s messages (e.g. emails) from multiple sources (e.g. different email accounts) and automatically forwards them to the user’s wireless or wired devices based on preset user preferences. Certain messages may be re-formatted based on the receiving device type, if necessary (e.g. attachments are stripped off before forwarding to a mobile device). The original, unre-formatted message is forwarded to a second device, triggered by a message request from that second device.

Note that a message in this context may be any form of electronic communication and is not necessarily restricted to email messages.

Questions

  1. Was the reference filed or published before August 17th, 2000? (True/False)
  2. Does the reference describe a system (e.g., server) that periodically polls a user’s different accounts and retrieve the user’s messages from those accounts?
  3. Does the system allow the user to specify and save their preferences on how incoming messages are distributed to the user’s devices (e.g., computers, cell phones), with at least one of the rules selecting messages from a specified account?
  4. Does the system offer any functionality to process or re-format messages for certain device types (e.g., a format suitable for wireless devices)?
  5. When a re-formatted message is dispatched to a wireless device, can a second (different) device request to receive and have the server deliver the original unre-formatted message?
