Problem

Patexia is looking for descriptions of a server that tags the devices of visiting web users based on a formula for a selected profile data supplied by a 3rd-party server in order to deliver targeted advertisement.

Submitted documents describing this system must be:

  • filed or published before 06/19/2006
  • not on the known references list

The entire submission must describe a system with the following participants:

  1. a website visitor who browses the Internet
  2. a server that hosts a website that includes advertisements
  3. a 3d-party profile server that has a database of profile types that an advertiser will pay to deliver targeted ads to

Using these participants:

  • the 3rd-party profile server first generates a formula so that a website host server can determine if any particular visitor is a match for a profile type that is desired by an advertiser
  • when a new visitor arrives at a website, the website’s host server implements this formula so that it can determine if the visitor is a profile match, even if it doesn’t have access to the full advertiser database
  • if the visitor is a match, the website’s host server places a tag on the visitor’s device
  • later, if the website’s host server sees a returning visitor with the tag, the server reads the tag and displays an advertisement targeted towards the profile identified by the tag

This contest is for a prior art search for US Patent 8,244,574, with a focus on claims 1 and 8, in the context of a 3rd-party profile server delegating to website host servers the act of determining if any particular website visitor is a match to an advertiser targeted profile in order to deliver targeted advertisements.
