Facebook buys WhatsApp for $16B

Facebook has officially entered into an agreement to purchase the hugely popular messaging client WhatsApp for $16B in cash and stock. Mark Zuckerberg has said that similar to Instagram, WhatsApp will continue to operate independently after the acquisition. With more than 450 million users WhatsApp is on pace to connect over 1 billion people in the next few years.
