Its an interesting case wherein the Google book scanning project fulfilled all the requirements of fair use..And how much we criticize such practices..but we all have been the beneficiaries of such a project..You get to know about varied books on a particular subject and then the source to buy one..Such a practice is transformative and fair :)

Amazon also has a somewhat similar service but I don't believe it is as extensive as Google's

@Pedram- I think Amazon's service zone is a bit different from what Google is offering with its Google Book project..Amazon just provides excerpts so that a customer can get the jist of a particular book..Like in India we have flipkart offering books for sale with the facility of reading few paras..In the case of Google some of the books are completely available and you can just scroll down and read it..Dont think Amazon has anything like that to offer..But ofcourse i am not sure :)
