USPTO Axes its SAWS Program

The USPTO announced on Monday that its has eliminated its clandestine Sensitive Application Warning System (SAWS) program. SAWS, which was originally developed in 1994, was designed to delay the examination and publication of patent applications that the Office classified as sensitive. A statement published online said that "upon careful consideration, the USPTO has concluded that the SAWS program has only been marginally utilized and provides minimal benefit."
