Pedram SameniThis analysis is independent of prosecution data. While we believe Alice and IPR may have impacted filing strategies of some companies, they are not directly related. We plan to do another study in the near future covering the prosecution data.

Kent RichardsonPedram nice work and timely. With the decline in the value of patents, in-house jobs are harder to land. The situation is the complete opposite to five years ago. Currently, we know six former in-house patent attorneys that are looking a new position. Five years ago, we knew of six senior positions that needed filling.

Pedram SameniThe demand is definitely different than five years ago. Litigation work is going down. Even with the same number of cases, a lot of them are settled quicker. PTAB is also much faster. So overall the amount of work is going down for certain inhouse roles.

Pedram SameniThanks Taeksung for your note. However, many of these cases had been filed together or around the same time. It does not necessarily mean that the patent was beaten 400 times and survived.

Van EconomouIt is the low hanging fruit phenomenon. The patents which had obvious (pun intended) problems were the first to be IPR'd and with time these were harder to find.

Anonymous Thank you. Interesting view. Another reason is many companies are outsourcing the application drafting to India. Also nowadays more than 50% of applications are foreign origin which requires less work.
