Problem

If you are new to Patexia and have never submitted to a contest, start by watching this simple how-to video  and take a look at our tutorial contest first, and refer to the submission notes below. The following questions will help you understand specifically what we are looking for in this study.

Patexia is looking for evidence of commercial uses of magnesium-containing compounds to prevent or inhibit thrombosis, or blood clotting within a vessel, associated with the insertion of stents.

A stent is a small cylindrical medical device used to force or hold open arteries which are blocked or collapsed. Stents are critical in the treatment of modern coronary artery disease caused by the accumulation of cholesterol and saturated fat in the arteries. An important problem with stent insertion is the possible formation of a blood clot, also known as a thrombus, when blood platelets adhere and coagulate on the stent.

The presence of magnesium ions in blood serum near the stent discourages the formation of these blood clots by reducing or inhibiting the accumulation and coagulation of blood platelets. Find sources which demonstrate this discovery in commercially available products or services. This could be in the form of a stent coating or intravenously-administered treatment, for example, using a magnesium-containing compound for the purpose of reducing the incidence of thrombosis.

Sources must clearly demonstrate use by a commercial entity in the year 2001 or later.

Questions

You will be asked the following two questions to enter the contest. The first contest entry to answer “yes” to questions 1-2 and provide a source to backup this answer will be selected as the contest winner. Patexia will ask three additional user survey questions which are optional, for informational purposes only, and will not be considered when selecting contest winners and awarding contest prizes. Can you identify...

  1. in the United States, Great Britain, France, Germany or Italy, any commercial use of a magnesium-based compound for inhibiting stent thrombosis under high shear blood flow conditions, where the subject receives the compound about 15-90 minutes before exposing the subject to a thrombogenic stimuli (e.g., implantation of a stent)?
  2. in the United States, a stent coated with a magnesium-based compound for commercial use to reduce the incidence of thrombosis in a cardiac region, where the compound is released from the stent into a body vessel to reduce the stent thrombosis under high shear blood flow conditions?

Selection Criteria and Prize Distribution

Patexia will evaluate each response to ensure each question has been satisfactorily answered. We will determine the contest winne and runners-up based first on the number of correct "yes" responses and second on the order responses were submitted. We will award 80% of the contest prize to the winning submission, and will distribute the remaining 20% among the qualifying runners-up. If the winning entry was referred by another user, a $500 referral prize will be subtracted from the 80% winner's award. Winner selection is based on community responses to Patexia's research questions and does not constitute a legal opinion on patent validity or related litigation.
